By The Seat Of Our Pants
Seminar Series

DEBBIE STEWART, owner of Stewart Communications, is a nonprofit management consultant. Her nonprofit management newsletter, “By the Seat of Our Pants,” is considered “the” local resource for staff and board members in Prescott Arizona.

With more than 30 years of first-hand experience in the nonprofit sector, Debbie helps organizations with the myriad issues facing nonprofit managers at various stages of growth. Her seminars help agencies transition from the “excitement of birth” to the “realities and opportunities of adulthood.” Seminar topics range from deciding whether to start a new organization, to media and marketing, friendraising and fundraising, staff relations, volunteer management, and event planning.

Her “Doctor Is In’ consultations afford a fast and efficient “agency health check-up” to determine where you might need help. She also does grant research and writing, and public relations campaigns and her “Chance Enhancer” Media Guide provides contact information for more than 40 media sources in the extended Prescott area.

Debbie is passionate about helping nonprofit organizations succeed. She got “hooked on helping” in her teens, while stuffing envelopes on a voluntary basis for a large nonprofit organization. Even though she was only one person, she realized that she could make a big difference to her community. During 30+ years of involvement with nonprofits, she has learned what ingredients contribute to the success (and failure) of a nonprofit organization. In addition to her experience as a volunteer, staff member, event planner, and member of boards and committees, much of her knowledge and wisdom has been gained through the frustration of watching organizations unknowingly lose volunteers and donors, drive valuable staff and board members away, and consistently miss opportunities that come before them.

She and her husband created the Last-Minute Non-Profit Stocking-Stuffer Bazaar, now in its 17th year. The event gives 54 nonprofit agencies an opportunity to raise money, while educating the public about what they do.

A frequent guest on radio and television, Debbie has also been a columnist for The Daily Courier and currently writes about nonprofit topics for Prescott Woman Magazine.
